Annual Pavement Maintenance Projects

Smooth, reliable streets impact how families travel, how first responders reach emergencies, and how businesses move goods through the City of Tyler.

We use several different repair strategies depending on road conditions. These range from preventive maintenance, such as crack sealing and seal coats, to intermediate treatments, such as asphalt overlays, to full-depth reconstruction when a street has reached the end of its service life. By matching the right repair type to each road's condition, we can extend pavement life and make the most of funding.

A Pavement Condition Index (PCI) survey is underway to help guide street maintenance decisions. Every few years, streets across Tyler are evaluated and rated based on their state, giving the City a clearer picture of where improvements are needed most. The data from this assessment is expected in June. The results will be used to develop a five-year pavement management plan that helps prioritize future projects, the appropriate repair type, and funding.

The 2026 Asphalt Enhancement Project will focus on about 20 miles of residential streets. Crews will mill the top layer of worn pavement and replace it with new asphalt, creating a smoother ride and helping streets last longer.

• Terre Haute Drive from Vine Avenue to Robertson Avenue
• Aurora Drive from Buena Vista Street to Terre Haute Drive
• Oak Lane from Sunnybrook Drive to West Ellis Street
