Pedestrian Access Improvements

Residents across Tyler have shared a consistent need for safer, more connected ways to move through their neighborhoods. Whether walking to a bus stop, heading to the park, or traveling short distances, sidewalks and crossings play an important role in daily life.

This project focuses on improving pedestrian access at key locations across Tyler. The work is guided by community input and transportation planning efforts, helping create safer and more connected routes for people who walk, roll, or ride.

There is a total of 14 project sites. The last site is located along Loop 323 between Donnybrook Avenue and Fry Avenue. Final construction is expected to finish by mid-August this year.

Ongoing Projects

Loop 323 from Donnybrook Avenue to Fry Avenue: A new sidewalk will be added on the north side of the road to complete sidewalk access along Loop 323 between Donnybrook Avenue and Fry Avenue.

Completed Projects

East Gentry Parkway north of Hillsboro Street: A new sidewalk was installed to fill existing gaps and replace deteriorated sections. This work also supports a Highway Safety Improvement Program project completed earlier this year.

West Northwest Loop 323 at Town Parc Apartments: A new sidewalk has been installed, and the bus stop has been relocated to improve safety and convenience.

West Northwest Loop 323 east of Highway 69 North: A new sidewalk was constructed to support access to the nearby bus stop.

West 32nd Street near the Glass Recreation Center: A new sidewalk has been constructed to support access to the bus stop at the Glass Recreation Center. A future project is expected to extend sidewalk access from the bus stop to Woldert Park.

North Bois D’Arc from West Cedar Street to West Queen Street: Existing sidewalks were removed and replaced with new sidewalks and driveway entrances built to current standards.

Highway 110 south near Aberdeen Drive: A new sidewalk has been installed to fill a missing segment along this corridor.

Shiloh Road at Edinburgh Drive: A new sidewalk was added to connect existing sidewalks in the area, increasing walkability.

Shiloh Road at Atlanta Avenue: A new sidewalk was constructed to connect to a nearby bus stop.

Fair Park Drive and Rose Park Drive: About 750 feet of new sidewalk was added along the south side of the Tyler Rose Garden for both Fair Park Drive and Rose Park Drive. A crossing and intersection were also an addition at Rose Park Drive, to provide greater safety for all visitors.

East Ninth Street at South Roseland Boulevard: Construction included a new crosswalk, ADA ramps, and sidewalk improvements that connect the bus stop to the existing sidewalk network in the area.

Oak Creek Boulevard: A new pedestrian crossing was added to connect Legacy Trail, improving access for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

South College Avenue and University Place: At the pre-existing pedestrian crossing, new ADA-compliant curb ramps have been constructed. These improvements help increase access to the Caldwell Arts Academy for students, families, and visitors.

East Erwin Street at Hillside Park: This project included sidewalk replacement, ADA-compliant ramps, and a new crosswalk with a pedestrian-activated crosswalk system.

By renovating each location, the City can strengthen connections to transit stops, parks, or community destinations, providing better pathways.
