West 2nd Street Elevated Storage Tank

The West 2nd Street Elevated Storage Tank (EST) rehabilitation project was completed in July 2025. It was an essential upgrade to Tyler's water distribution system. Located just inside Loop 323 at the intersection of Robertson Road and West 2nd Street, the one-million-gallon water storage tank plays a critical role in maintaining water pressure and capacity during peak demand periods.
In August 2024, the Tyler City Council authorized a $1,501,920 contract with TanksCo Inc. to undertake comprehensive rehabilitation work on the West 2nd Street ElST. The project included:

• Cleaning and Repainting: Both the interior and exterior of the tank were thoroughly sandblasted and repainted, ensuring durability and longevity.
• Altitude Valve Replacement: The altitude valve, crucial for regulating water levels, was upgraded to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• SCADA System Upgrade: The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system was modernized to provide real-time monitoring and control of the tank's operations.
• Additional Improvements: This included access enhancements, steel repairs, installation of a tank mixer, minor yard piping adjustments, and tank disinfection to prepare it for service.

The altitude valve and SCADA system are the "brain and muscle" of the EST, which measure the tank level throughout the day and automatically open and close the altitude valve to fill the tank based on pre-determined levels.

With the West 2nd Street Elevated Storage Tank back in service, Tyler can confidently rely on a robust water distribution system to meet the needs of our community now and in the future.
