Once a vital part of Tyler’s water distribution system, the South Glenwood Ground Storage Tank has been out of service for more than 30 years. Built in the 1940s, the facility once stored water from Well 2, which is scheduled to be decommissioned by the end of 2025.

Tyler Water Utilities is working with Hunter Demolition and Wrecking Corporation under a $276,684 contract to remove the tank and related structures. The project includes demolishing the tank, its foundation, a nearby retaining wall, and a brick building; removing the surrounding chain link fence; cutting and plugging existing water lines; coordinating with utility providers; and implementing traffic control during the work.

Construction will begin mid to late August and is anticipated to be completed in October.

These efforts will improve safety, remove an obsolete structure, and prepare the site for potential future use.
